Name: Rikku
Canon: Final Fantasy X
Canon Point: immediately post-game
Age: 15
History: Final Fantasy Wiki Link

Personality:

On the surface, Rikku is an upbeat teenage girl. She's cheerful and tends to focus on the positive, and she's overwhelmingly friendly even to people she doesn't know well. On the flip side, she's still somewhat childish and is prone to whining when she feels ignored or doesn't get her way. She’s energetic to a fault, can be socially naïve, and moves in a seemingly-unsteady way that might be mistaken for clumsiness (which, of course, should not be confused for times in which she is actually clumsy).

Rikku is also an intensely loyal individual who considers ties of friendship to be strong and ties of blood to be stronger still. Despite barely knowing Yuna on an interpersonal basis, Rikku swears fealty immediately when she joins the party late in the game. When clashing with her brother at Lake Macalania, she appears honestly distraught when he blows her off after she tries to explain her guardianship of Yuna. She also seems to have a strong bond with other members of the party, Tidus especially.

Beneath the surface, however, Rikku also harbors deep sadness and girlish insecurity. As an Al Bhed and as a person living on the continent of Spira, she's had her share of hurt and heartache: the death of her mother, the persecution of her race, the destruction of the Al Bheds' Home, the constant threat that Sin poses, and so on. When discussing or when faced with these sorts of realities Rikku becomes quiet and almost hesitant, drawing into herself and sometimes speaking in clumsy roundabouts to avoid saying what bothers her. Usually, however, Rikku's able to push past her anguish and insecurity in order to press forward. While the events of the game do often give her a great deal of pause, after a brief healing period she's generally good to continue. Part of that ability to perservere is due being raised with Al Bhed's distinct form of stoicism, which her father explicitly exhibits at the destruction of Home by shouting almost triumphantly at their escape and which she states explicitly when visiting the Farplane. The past and the world may hurt, but one can always rebuild. Dwelling on memories and what-ifs does nothing.

One thing Rikku really struggles to work past, however, is her astraphobia. Her fear of lightning and thunder is nearly paralyzing, reducing her to a whimpering, curled up ball that scrambles across the ground as close to it as possible. There are instances where she's able to push past it for brief periods, but it requires exceptional circumstances for her to be able and willing to do so.

As of the canon point from which Rikku's being taken, her aspirations for her future are colored by the world she lives in and a desire to be something she considers greater than herself. She plans to marry young and have a large family and aspires to be aloof and mature, specifically identifying Lulu as a role model in the latter regard. The events of post-FFX media suggest that her journey with Yuna changed her outlook in that regard, as she spends pretty much all of her time wandering the world in search of adventure rather than settling down, but that change is not fully solidified just yet.

Although FFX doesn't make this trait especially explicit, Rikku demonstrates a great deal of intelligence through the game. She's fluent in two languages, one of which is rarely used amongst her home community. Her older brother doesn't speak the language despite her father being bilingual as well, so it was not spoken among her immediate family and therefore something she had to seek out and learn. She demonstrates above-average capability with constructing and handling machina (machinery) as well as with chemistry. Also, in the beginning of the game she's the only person who doesn't write Tidus off as a fiend in human disguise, demonstrating that she very much possesses some degree of perception and common sense.

And, finally, food can sway her opinion/hold her attention if she's not careful. For example, when the party is in Guadosalam she's much more fixated on the meal than on the blatantly uncomfortable atmosphere.  A girl's gotta eat sometimes, you know?

Abilities & Skills:

Rikku uses claws and targes in battle, and can move quickly in order to dismantle machines or pickpocket enemies. She's also skilled in chemistry and engineering, able to mix components into potions during battle or to help build/enhance weapons and armor outside of it.

FFX's dialogue and mechanics suggest that anyone is capable of learning and casting magic in Spira, although some people are more magically inclined than others. It's safe to assume that Rikku took Lulu's advice and learned a few basic spells, even if she would never consider herself any kind of mage.

Inventory/Companions:

Godhand claw
Targe (upper left)
Outfit
Al Bhed diving suit

Choice: Witch
Reason: Rikku's background in chemistry makes her well-suited for the Alchemy magic class.  Her fear of lightning makes her a poor candidate for Evocation.  Both should be interesting to see play out, especially if she chooses to embrace the role and try to be the kind of magic-users Lulu and Yuna are, respectively, in game.
